Hall of Famer

23 Jul

If you know anything about DB it’s that he really peaked when he attended Tyler Hill Camp for thirteen summers as a camper, counselor, color war general and eventually administrator. He loved spending his summers in Tyler Hill, PA and has nothing but the fondest memories of his days at camp.

So it really came as no surprise a few months ago when DB got the call that he was being inducted into Tyler Hill’s Hall of Fame.  His impact on the campers, staff and administrators through the years made him a worthy candidate for the class of 2012.

Most of the inductees participated in a smaller ceremony in front of a small group, but DB’s legendary status had him front and center in front of the whole camp.

When it was his time, a long time friend and fellow counselor, Ryan and DB’s favorite camper, Ben, gave him quite the introduction.  After a thunderous applause, DB got up on stage and being the great extemporaneous speaker that he is, delivered an inspiring acceptance speech.  You can check out some pics below, but your best bet is to view the whole thing on YouTube right here.  (Note: We were informed the mic cuts in and out but stick through the video, it’s great!)

The historic plaque where DB’s name will live on forever

Look at that pride

In just a few short months I will be married to a legend.

Can’t wait to display this plaque in our apartment, right next to DB’s math trophy.  Mazel Tov!  xoxo db2be

This Ain’t My First Rodeo

6 Apr

As you know I will be walking down the aisle in my beautiful gown from RK Bridal on November 3.  But did you know this will not be the first wedding dress I have purchased?

Back in 2005, when I was an intern for a pr agency, I was featured in a segment on Fox & Friends about bridezillas.  But what to wear?  PR agencies budgets were low, so this called for a trip to David’s Bridal on Route 22 and who better to take than my girl Jenn.

There was a big selection for the $99 sale, but ultimately we settled on something classic.

She really wanted to take this home. PS please note Jenn is wearing a black polo, as she did for about four years straight.

Then it was time for the show!  Fox & Friends tapes live at 46th and 6th Ave and they frequently have segments outside – their version of the Today Show plaza.  Sadly Jenn couldn’t come to the show but I was with another bride intern.

here i am backstage

patiently waiting

they got me

got to dunk the other intern!

A quick google search before clicking “publish” led me to find a blog post about us!  Still no clip, but you can read all about the media world making fun of us here on Fishbowl NY.  I’m so proud of myself.

Happy Presidents Day!

20 Feb

Last Presidents Day weekend, DB and I went up to Boston for the long weekend and we had the best time.  The only downside was that it was soooo cold and windy!  We drove up and stayed with my cousins in their apartment in the West End, near the TD Garden.

Did you know that DB loves aquariums?  I’m not the biggest fan, but every now and then I give in.  We visited the Boston Aquarium and I had more fun in the gift shop.  But I did love those penguins!

In addition to walking around Boston (it had been a while since either of us were there), we did one of our favorite things when visiting a city – a brewery tour!  The Sam Adams brewery tour was one of the best we have ever been on.  It was so informative and interactive.  We tasted several beers and learned about the history of the brand, but most excitedly, we got to keep the glass.

Our final activity of our Boston weekend was the perfect activity for Presidents Day… JFK’s Presidential Library! This was my first presidential library visit (DB’s second)  and now I want to visit them all.  We learned so much about JFK and his family and it was a great history lesson.

I wish I took more pictures that weekend, but I think you get the idea.  Hope you are enjoying your day off!

Happy Birthday Danielle!

13 Jan

Happy birthday to db-to-be who turns 28 today!

Below are some photos from previous birthdays we have spent together. Unfortunately, no evidence remains of the time she was asked to leave a bar on her 24th birthday for “unruly behavior.”

2011: We went to a bar in Brooklyn to watch the Seahawks-Saints game. Danielle enjoyed this dirty towel and chanting "USA,USA!"

2010: We went to a German beer garden in Alphabet City. Note: I have no clue who the guy is sitting next to Danielle.

2009: We celebrated Danielle's "Double Bat Mitzvah" with a scrumptious meal at Sammy's Romanian Steakhouse on the Lower East Side. I particularly enjoy this photo of Kate drinking straight out of a bottle of vodka.

2008: As mentioned before, no photographic evidence remains of Danielle's 24th birthday party. The closest photo of Danielle that I could find was this picture of Bernie (center) from Weekend at Bernie's.

Update: Danielle has located some pictures from earlier in the night on her infamous 2008 birthday

Apps at Danielle's old apartment on the Upper West Side (if only she knew what was in store for her later)

Danielle well on her way to getting kicked out of the bar

Also, we have located a pic of Danielle from her 2006 birthday, when she attended the always-fun Daily Pennsylvanian banquet. This was a notable night, as someone was shot outside my apartment when we got home!

Happy New Years

1 Jan

DB and I rang in 2012 last night in style in NYC.  As you can probably guess, this is not the first NYE we have spent together and I can almost guarantee it won’t be the last!

Last year, my friend Marisa and I rented out Destination Bar in the East Village and hosted a shindig there.  DB was happy to play DJ and a great time was had by all!

Marisa and Acker (to know him is to love him)

In 2009, DB and I got out of town and spent NYE in Mexico.  We had a disaster travel day and barely made it in time to ring in 2010 with the other weirdos at our hotel.  Apparently in Mexico, it’s a tradition to eat oversized grapes.

In 2008, we decided to host a party in our studio apartment in Murray Hill which was great, although cramped!

look who it is!

In 2007, we left town once again but this time headed to the Lone Star State.  DB had to be in San Antonio for work on New Year’s Day, so we went down a few days early and visited San Antonio and Austin.

On the Riverwalk - Surprisingly cold

My first NYE in the city was an apartment party with some hookers on the Upper East. Don’t you just love Kristina trying to poke through?  Go back to the lasagna.

In 2005 NYE, we were still in school (those were the days), so the hooks threw a party at a new restaurant on campus, Shaggy’s (RIP).  It’s no longer open, but this was a great party!  Can’t beat Delaware’s prices on …anything.

Hopefully you’re still with me, there’s lot of history here!  The final NYE to highlight is from 2004, which was also celebrated in Delaware. I left for New Zealand shortly after this pic!  Hooks, anyone remember why we all dressed up like pink ladies?

So many memories in this post!  Looking forward to 2012, I think it’s going to be a great year. 😉 xoxo db2be

Merry Christmas!!

25 Dec

Merry Christmas from Kendall Park, NJ!  I am currently celebrating my sixth Christmas with the fabulous O’Holla family.  Six years ago Rachel, one of the seven hookers, came up with a great idea that I come see what Christmas is all about  and celebrate with her family. Now December 25 is one of my favorite days of the year!

Christmas 2010 - Larry came to vist and a lamp broke itself

Christmas 2009 with Rachel and Em

Christmas 2008!

Christmas 2007 - Pop 5!

Christmas 2006 - The tree in the old spot. PS How different do we look???

Rachel’s family is Polish and we eat lots of fun foods and drink way too much Boilo, a delicious family specialty drink.  Hope you are having a great day, whether you are opening presents from Santa or at the movies eating Chinese food.  Shout out to my main squeeze who is doing the latter.  Stolat!   xoxo db2be

Homecoming Queens

17 Nov

Check out the hookers on University of Delaware’s blog, UDaily!  We all met in Newark for homecoming weekend, fresh off our photo contest victory.  It was a spectacular weekend with all seven hookers present.  Laura (“Larry”) even flew in from California and surprised us!

An amazing weekend was had by all.  I have the bestest friends a girl could ask for! Blue Hens of a feather really do flock together.  HFL.  xoxo db2be
