Meet Steve!

28 Oct
It’s time to meet the last of the groomsmen.  While I can’t play favorites, we definitely ended on a high note.  After all, it’s not a competition, right Steve?
Steve B, also known as Big Smooth is our gang idol host, skillet cookie chef, Devils fan, Springsteen ticket holder and most importantly, 1/4 of the Benihana foursome.
1) How do you know DB?
I am primarily a friend of DB’s, dating back to our college days. In addition, I am a VIP at this wedding because DB owes his entire professional career to me – I got him his first job out of college as a budding researcher at CSTV. In hindsight, I think he and I both wish he could have those years back and pick a different way to enter the workforce.   I met DB while we were both working at our college newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, likely back in 2003 although I don’t remember the exact moment.  I worked on the news side, and Mr. Burrick worked on the sports side, but he was a rising star during my tenure there, and it was clear he was destined for greatness.
2) Tell us about the first time you met DB-to-Be.
I have no idea how we met.  I have literally no recollection of that moment.  But if you’d like, we can claim it was at Idol Night at my apartment.
3) Name a song you want the band to play.  Name a song you DON’T want the band to play.
I have a strict list of songs I dislike hearing at all weddings, including Don’t Stop Believing, I Gotta Feeling and Total Eclipse of the Heart (my 2nd least favorite song of all time).  However, all weddings should include Dynamite by Taio Cruz.  Everybody loves Dynamite.  It’s a fantastic song.  There’s no excuse for the band to skip that one.
4) What is your go-to wedding drink?  What is your favorite wedding food?
At my own wedding, I stuck with Jack & Coke to keep things simple, but at others’ weddings, I much prefer the highest end Scotch available at the bar.  So look for me at the bar sipping on some delicious Scotch in November.  And Beef Wellington, either in the miniature or traditional version, is the best food ever invented, so I’m crossing my fingers for that.
5) Finish this sentence. Love is ________________.

Love is a sentiment that DB reserves for pan-fried chicken dishes in a lemon sauce served at the Cheesecake Factory.  Humans do not receive the same affection from DB’s heart as chain restaurant meals.

Guess Who’s [not] Coming to Dinner

25 Oct

The POTUS and FLOTUS, Barack and Michelle Obama, can’t make it on November 3.   I guess they will be a little busy three days before Election Day.  Bummer – they are great dancers.

Oh and by the way, we are now on the ten-day forcast.  59 and sunny with 0% chance of rain.  I’ll take it.  xoxo db2be

Meet the Birthday Girl Rachel!

21 Oct

Second to last maid to go and it’s a good one.  It’s also her birthday!  Time to get to know Rachel O’Hollaaaaa.

get it? TIME to meet Rach?

1) How do you know DB-to-Be?

I met Rabin (and Roberta) during dorm move in freshman year. Actually, Rabin and I brag about the fact that we are the longest of the hooker friends because we talked on the phone a few months before move in. Since we were suite mates, Rabin was able to get my phone number and call me. We chatted for a while before ever meeting, exchanged AIM screen names, and the rest is history! Through the years after college together we’ve been through lots of moves, hooker parties, almost being decapitated, mystery $40 bar tabs, silly string attacks, and Belle Buoy visits. We’ve suffered through hours on the NJ Transit together, endured The Challenge Reunion, formed an Icing alliance, and consoled each other when we lost our beloved Banana. We’ve worn countless matching outfits and written many song parodies. It is crazy to think that 10 years after that phone call I would be one of her bridesmaids.

so college

one of many silly stringings

we survived decapitation. Lo, we would have really missed your head.

2) Tell us about the first time you met DB.

I don’t exactly remember the first time I met DB, but I know that right from the first weeks of meeting Rabin he was part of her life. Rabin and I would stay up late “studying” in her dorm but mostly gabbing about boys and our experiences. We all pretty much considered DB her boyfriend, even before The Daily Pennsylvanian outted them…

Live 8 in Philly, 2005

3) Name a song you want the band to play.  Name a song you DON’T want the band to play.

I am always a fan of the ever classic Shout to get the party started. Also, any classic hooker song like Take Me Home Tonight, Jessie’s Girl, Sweet Caroline, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Hold On, etc etc.   I am not a fan of organized dance songs like the electric slide…although I may not complain about Cotton Eye Joe since it takes us back to the Ray Street dorms.

4) What is your go-to wedding drink?  What is your favorite wedding food?

My go to drink is always 2 vodka tonics before I switch to Yuengling for the rest of the night. My favorite wedding food is always the hors d’oeuvres: shrimp cocktail, scallops, crab cakes, and really anything with bacon and or seafood.

This will be one of our many specialty beers, so you’re all set!

5) Finish this sentence. Love is _________.

All you need. Can’t argue with the Beatles.

WOW: Brianne and Andrew

17 Oct

DB, Marisa and I attended Brianne and Andrew’s wedding in southern California a few weeks ago and we had an amazing time!  The wedding was a thoughtful, ETSY-fulled masterpiece, the bride was stunning and the scenery was incredible.

Check out some pics below.

amazing long tables

oh yes, two people jumped in the pool

the happy newleyweds…and marisa

This wedding was the polar opposite of ours, but that’s exactly what I loved about it!  Brianne and I were fall wedding buddies – comparing notes, Etsy products, chatting constantly.  She really did an amazing job and everything fell into place.  But of course that means we are next.

Congrats to the Killengers!  Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks.  xoxo db2be

Meet JB!

14 Oct
Second to last groomsman!  It’s time to meet JB.

just in case you forget his name.

1) How do you know DB?
I have known David since he was born. We have been friends literally our whole lives.  He was wearing diapers, maybe. Or, I would hope he was wearing diapers. There is really no possibility I can actually remember it, we were both too young.

 2) Tell us about the first time you met DB-to-Be.

I met Danielle when she moved to Millburn in middle school. I do not remember too much about the early years, I was a good enough friend of Danielle’s to get the invite to her Bat Mitzvah. David, however, missed the cut and the village people. But maybe it makes more sense to also explain the first time I realized David and Danielle were an item. I was visiting David for Spring Fling at U-Penn and Danielle was also visiting. We had enough mutual friends at U-Penn that at first it was unclear who Danielle was visiting. When I realized David and Danielle were being a little too friendly, it clicked.

 3) Name a song you want the band to play.  Name a song you DON’T want the band to play.

A song the band should play is Everything by Michael Buble (Sophia’s pick).  A song the band should not play is the macarena.

Great choice Sophia!

4) What is your go-to wedding drink?  What is your favorite wedding food?

Go to wedding drink is bourbon and coke. My favorite wedding food is wrapped in bacon. Putting it all together, I think bacon smoked bourbon and coke would
suffice for the whole meal.

5) Finish this sentence. Love is ________________.

…sharing your life with your best friend.

My Ragin’ Cajun Bachelorette Recap

11 Oct

I think I can speak for our group of ten to say that we had the best time in New Orleans this past weekend for my bachelorette party.  It was a great city to visit and we certainly had a jam-packed itinerary!

Our trip started very early on Friday morning, when everyone hopped on early flights to the Crescent City.  I got to experience first class for the first time (thank you Marisa) and once we landed the fun started right away.  After a much needed lunch and walk around the French Quarter, we got all dolled up for our evening.  My friends love a good theme nights and Friday night was no exception.   Since DB and I are going on a safari, we had a safari-themed evening.  All of the ladies wore some kind of animal print and I was the zookeeper.  We also decorated safari hats.

RAWR!

db2be the zookeeper

in the words of kristina, “everyone does this, right?”

We had an early start on Saturday morning, for our Honey Island Swamp Tour.  After a 45 minute ride, we were on the bayou feeding alligators hot dogs and marshmellows.  Not surprisingly, we had another matching outfit.

it’s getting closer!

that line you see at the bottom was our boat! how am i going to make it through a real safari with lions?

but we survived!!!

After touring the swamp, we decided to lunch at Drago’s, the spot for NOLA charbroiled oysters.  This means cheese, butter and garlic are added to a fresh oyster and broiled to perfection.  It was heavenly.  We were licking the shells.   We then left on a haunted history tour of New Orleans which was fascinating.

After a regroup at the hotel, we got into our second night uniform, little black dresses, with a twist.  Of course I had a headpiece of some sort.

The night ended with a stop at Cafe Du Monde, the #1 thing I wanted to do/eat.  They lived up to the hype!  Mmmmm.

The third and final day consisted of brunch at Mother’s, a culinary must-see.  DB would have loved this place. We then took another walk around the French Quarter to check out the art and music we had seen on the walking tour the day before.  While there, we found the creepiest looking lady and had our tarot cards read.  When in NOLA…

Eventually it was time to say goodbye and head home.  It was the trip of a lifetime and I’m so lucky to have such amazing, thoughtful friends to plan the whole thing.  Thank you so much!!

With the bachelorette and bachelor parties done and dusted, things are really getting close.  Can you believe it?  xoxo db2be
