Eurotrip

11 Jul

DB and I just returned from a ten-day mega-adventure in the Pacific NW.  It was a great opportunity to celebrate DB’s graduation and take advantage of the extra day off from work to make the most of our time away.

The last time we went on a mega adventure was the last time we graduated from school and traveled around Europe for three weeks.  I would say that we backpacked, but let’s face it, I’m not that kind of girl.  Anyway, it was the trip of a lifetime and DB and I still laugh about many things that happened while we were there.

Our journey started in Spain where we visited Madrid and Barcelona.  Highlights included Gaudi Park, La Sagrada Familia and our really scary “hotel” room where I asked the housekeeping staff to clean our bodies instead of our room.  My Spanish was a little rusty.

We then hopped over to the South of France where our cab driver almost killed a pedestrian over a pizza.  We took a day trip to Monte Carlo and we somehow got to visit the most luxurious spa in the world.  It was so Nice there. 😉

After a long train ride on France’s finest rails, we were in Paris.  We took in all of the sites – Eiffel Tower, Lourve, Arc De Triomphe, Musee D’Orsay and even took in a show at the Moulin Rouge.  It was all wonderful, as expected.  We also took a day trip to Versailles which was also one of my favorites days.

France was followed by Belgium where we drank some delicious beer and ate delicious waffles.

Amsterdam came next.  The Heineken museum was so fun and DB was so happy that you could pee in the street.  So unfair.

Our final stop was Berlin, which was a great city.   2006 was an extra special year because the World Cup was going on!

DB and I also went on a bike tour of Berlin but that didn’t end so well.  It turns out I hadn’t been on a bike in over ten years and riding through a major international city in a pack of 50 people was not the best way for me to ease into it.  It was the only time in our relationship I actually thought we were going to break up!  Good thing we worked things out, although I had to endure years of ridicule  about my bike riding skills.

Hope you enjoyed the pics!  I’ll probably revisit a few more, but there will never be anything like this!  xo db2be
